St:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-ZyXELNET- FileEcho-definition Sept., 2nd 1993
General rules:
==============
The international file-system in ZyXELNET is coordinated by the
international file coordinator (IFC) allways reachable at 16:16/3.
Files are hatched into ZyXELNet from central points.
These are:
Europe : Manfred Schramm, 16:100/401 (Region-Coordinator-Europe)
Asia : Laurence Tan, 17:100/170 (Region-Coordinator-Asia)
Northern America : James_McOrmond,18:224/100 (Region-Coordinator-N.-America
each country : by _ONE_ system selected by the host (can be the host
himself) except USA/CAN
USA/CAN : by something around 5 systems a country
for the nodediffs: the nodelist-keeper (Manfred Schramm)
for the pointlist: the pointlist-keeper
echodefs : IEC (international echo coordinator)
filedefs : IFC (international file coordinator)
If you want your files to be hatched, send them crash to one of the above
systems with a small note. This system then will hatch that file into the
right area. The responsible sysop may decide to skip hatching of a file
if it is buggy or simply not worth it, but they should be carefull with
the second point.
These Files _must_ match the following:
- NEIGTHER commercial NOR registered Software;
- Virus-tested with at least one of the actual Virus-Scanners
(e.g. Mc Affee's SCAN);
- has to be installable, and is "play-tested";
- BETA-Versions have to run stable;
- no junk in the archive(s) like BBS-Info's, dozen of example-graphics
etc.
- packed with one of the common Packers, with max. compression on.
DOS: .ZIP, .ARJ, .LZH, ARC, etc..
Amiga: ZIP, DMS
- description of that File at least in english language
or adequate online-help
A File included in the Archieve named FILEID.DIZ enclosing a short
description will be appreciated.
Node-/Pointlists and difference Files are at the moment packed with ARC (Level
5). We hopefully will soon change to another more effective packer.
Announcing of files
===================
in international echoareas there should be one system each zone, that
announces new files to see how long the links take an if the files reach
all zones. The echo, where these announcements are placed should be
available for every system in ZyXELNET. I'd like to see sysop.zyx for this.
Each country should have one system announcing new files in a _NATIONAL_
echoarea. That can, but must not, be the host of each country.
Routing fileareas into other networks
=====================================
NO ZyXELNET-FILE-ECHOS ARE TO BE ROUTED INTO OTHER NETWORKS!!!!
We've built this network to distribute new files and messages with the purpose
not to change anything in the files while routing them. Some of us are spending
loads of money to get the files from zone to zone all over the world.
Any system, interested in our fileareas, should become a member of ZyXELNET.
It is the best way to:
1) control the way the files go
2) detect dupelinks
It it also a kind of honour to all the people in our net that help keeping it
running.
guarding this rules
===================
There are several persons, guarding these rules (after each member of ZyXELNET
should guard them by himself):
NetFileCoordinator
ZoneFileCoordinator
InternationalFileCoordinator
(see policy)
These different levels of Coordination are enabled to decide a exclision of
members hurting these rules.
What to do in case of members hurting these rules ?
Any member hurting these rules is to be demanded to stop this IMMEDIATELY.
(Send a CC:-Mail to your nexthigher *FC)
This demand should be made by the next higher-level system of the member.
eg. Node <- HUB <- NC <- (NFC <-) <- ZFC <- IFC
In case of further hurtings by the member, it is to be excluded from
ZyXELNET-Nodelist.
File-Echos are defined as follows:
==================================
ZYXELROM - new firmware for ZyXEL-Modems, all models. File-descriptions
include precise information for which modem the specific
version will work. These ROM-Versions are only hatched into
ZyXELNet if sent from ZyXEL-Taiwan directly and they are cleared
from ZyXEL-Taiwan for hatching (this is also for beta-versions).
ZYXTOOL - Software and Tools for use with ZyXEL-Modems
ZYXTEXT - Textfiles, Documentations, Manuals, Batchfiles, and Release-Notes
ZYX_LIST - ZyXELNet complete Nodelist's, hatched on a
weekly basis on each friday. List's are named:
Nodelist's : ZYX_NET.A??
ZYXPOINT - ZyXELNet pointlists hatched on a weekly
basis on each friday. Files are named:
Pointlist's: Z_PNT.Z??
ZYXDIFF - ZyXELNet Nodediffs hatched on a weekly
basis on each friday. Files are named:
Nodediff's : ZYX_DIFF.A??
ZYXADMIN - All the files that need to be hatched for administration
like Echo- and Filedef's, policy, etc.
All ZyXELNET-fileechos are to be made availiable for every system joining the
ZyXELNET.
